About me

A few notes to my fellow Listal users:

- If we have NOT interacted on here in some way (an exchange of votes, comments, messages, etc.) then I will DENY your friend request. That said, I'm always open to finding new people that share my interests, I just don't like adding people as friends when I have no idea who they are.
- I used to stop by everyone's profile to say thanks for votes, but lately it seems like people don't care much about that. So if you vote for something of mine, just know that it's appreciated & I thank you. I may still occasionally say thanks, but I'm not going to make a frequent habit of it anymore.
- I will definitely drop by your profile to discuss comments, unless you don't have a comments section where I can do so. In such cases I will most likely reply in a comment that follows yours.
- PLEASE only leave me comments to check out lists that you know I'd be interested in. And for the record I'm NEVER interested in lists of "hot" people, unless there's some content mocking them or something to make them interesting. I can find eye candy just fine if I want to, thanks.

I watched Alice, probably a movie I would have skipped if you hadn't left that comment, but I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It was very clever.

Most of the time even with bad movies I can find my way into them and get something out of it, but Jeff Dies at the End completely lost me - it reminded me of Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy - another movie I've never been able to figure out, but as you said - I guess it was just not my taste.

I might not have seen the parallels between Iron Man 3 and The Incredibles so clearly except that The Incredibles is my nephew's new favorite movie, which he has been watching and quoting constantly since my arrival in Oregon, so I could see Killian as Syndrome right away, despite its flaws I am sure that I will be giving Iron Man 3 another watch as it was still an entertaining movie and Downey is so great as Iron Man.

Oh, and I would be happy to send my copy of WarGames off for you to watch if you want when I send your movies back to you - that was one of my favorites during the Summer of '83 :)

They so need to make more movies like John Dies at the End! You never know what's gonna happen next, but it's always fascinating and it always goes to interesting places, and it's always super entertaining while doing that. You really can't ask for more than that. I know you're familiar with the rest of the director's work- are his other movies worth checking out, or is John a completely different animal than anything he's ever done?

I've definitely found more to appreciate about The Silence of the Lambs each time I've seen it. I don't think it's a movie that could possibly ever get old, or even feel too dated for that matter. I can't imagine you'd regret sitting down for a full viewing after 10 years.

I think it's hardly offensive or trying to be so. The ridiculing of religious imagery has been omni-present in basically all witch films since The Black Sabbath. Zombie certainly applies a certain amount of his tradermark blunt approach to them, but I found it "tasteful" in the sense that it goes with what that genre has been and probably will be.

The remake of Maniac is probably my favourite horror film in several years, but I'm afraid I can't compare it to the original since I never saw it. Lustig's work just didn't intrigue me too much from the get-go, I always had the impression it was basically a sleazy horror film. I saw the remake mostly due to the insane positive praise it has been getting, and holy shit, it was worth it. People I've talked to who have seen both mostly remark that as far as story beats go the two are similar, but I mean the reason why I loved the remake so much is the camera work, and that's a wholly original thing to this movie.

Thank you for the "The Conjuring" trailer vote!

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I was getting bored of Trebek. Felt it was time for some change.

And things have been alright, I guess, thank you. At least I can't really complain. I'm alive. Hope things have been well with you.

Let's put it like this: Nightmare City starts with a group of zombies landing an airplane and then storming the airport using machetes and machine guns. I think it might fit the list I commented on a tad better.

Hi man, thank for the vote and comments! =)

I know what you mean! I began/posted mine yesterday but all I had to show was the LOTR trilogy and another Bond movie. (lol)

Still, the month is young (even if I'm not) and there is yet hope. Life's pesky trivialities indeed!

I have recently begun watching Fringe on Netflix, as well, and that cuts into my movie time. Gods, it is so addicting though!!! ;)
Posted: 1 week, 2 days ago at May 9 14:29
Ahhh, I just saw your comment on my own Favorite zombies list. After reading it, I perused my list, noticing the differences between mine and your own. I also noticed that, though I had discounted several for not being 'true' zombie flicks...I also included others that you discounted for the same reason.

Looks like I really could have been more technical! ;)

Perhaps I'll reevaluate mine in the near future. Knowing me, it will bug me and weigh on my mind until I do. (lol)

Thanks for the reply and the clarification on Zombie Strippers. ;)

I truly hated that I've had to opt out of the Netflix Instant Project of late. As you can see by my movie diary for last month, my time has been severely limited for watching. Hopefully that will change soon...perhaps next month I can rejoin.

Thanks for your comment and vote. =)

Yeah I agree "Hudson Hawk" is a very flawed film, but there's some absolutely gut bustingly funny moments in it, I had to put it on my list.

Shame that you didn't enjoy Lords too much. Take some joy in knowing that you pretty much got the most out of it you could since you saw it in the theater, since it's an awfully pretty film. The story is dull, I admit, but it's much more of a mood piece.

And hey, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell shooting the shit for ninety minutes about how horribly everyone else tortured Campbell during the shooting of ED2 is a winning combination all around.

With IM3, I've already read that RDJ is pretty 50/50 on making another full feature, Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't want to do it, and neither does Shane Black too much. I'm personally just hoping for a Jon Favreau-one man show with a Happy Hogan-spinoff. Give the man a chance to indulge his ego proper since that's all he tried to do with IM2.

Like I said, I love the goofs in ED2. I consider them part of the humor by now. If you haven't done so, I strongly recommend watching the first two films with commentary tracks. The ensemble commentary for II is pretty much the best commentary track of all time, and this coming from a person who never watches anything with commentary tracks. I've seen them both with the tracks way more than I'd like to admit.

Regarding (500) Days of Summer, it was a rewatch, I've seen it twice before, and just ended up watching it since the TV was on and I was like "Hey this movie had scenes I liked occasionally!" and sat down. It just doesn't do it for me. As far as the modern hipster-esque comedy film goes, Juno would be my pick for the winner (and heck, probably my favourite comedy of the 00s while we're at it).

Also, yeah, I missed the credits to IM3 since I sort of dislike the Marvel-way of putting scenes after the end credits and feel the best way to boycott their existence is not sticking around to see it. But it's such a perfect end for Stark's character, and everyone is saying that this is it aside from the Avengers-stuff, I feel like they have a real good shot at just not doing more of these mediocre action movies.

Thanks for voting for my new list. I haven't focused on lists featuring actors and movies for a while. I recently reviewed 'Wings of Desire' for my Anticipation list.

You should just slum it out, seriously. That's such an outrageously good-looking film that it deserves to be seen on the big screen. And heck, slumming out perfectly suits the midwestern gothic-vibe that movie has going for it.

So glad you liked my recommendation! It's been a while since I last saw The Visitor... probably two years or so. And I still remember it really well, whereas there are some movies that I saw two months ago that I've totally forgotten about already. The Visitor really stuck with me. I still remember the line "We're not just helpless children" and the forceful yet defeated way in which the main character delivers it.

You need to check out Win Win for sure. Tom McCarthy hasn't gotten as much recognition as someone like Alexander Payne, and maybe his movies don't have the comedic edge that Payne's movies have, but I feel like he's just as great as Payne at creating characters who feel human. (And if you're a fan of Paul Giamatti, that's even more reason to see Win Win.) Hope all's well. :)
